The list of scholarships below are posted in the Counseling and Career Center.  All scholarships should be turned in to the student's guidance counselor, unless specified otherwise.  Deadlines are highlighted at the top of each application—those are the deadlines to go by.  The following scholarships are listed by deadline dates:

 

Deadline:  March 23, 2010

EDNA MARWILL GRANT - ALPHA KAPPA CHAPTER OF DELTA KAPPA GAMMA SOCIETY INTERNATIONAL ($500.)

  • Must be a senior (female)

  • Must be intending on enrolling in a college program leading to teacher certification

  • Include activity sheet

  • Three letters of recommendation

  • Photograph of yourself

Deadline:  March 25, 2010

ANNA HUDSON ERBACHER SCHOLARSHIP ($2,500.)

  • Must be a senior

  • Must be pursuing a career in teaching

  • Include activity sheet

  • One letter of recommendation from a classroom teacher

  • Write a personal letter explaining why you are interested in a teaching career

Deadline:  March 25, 2010

JUNIOR LEAGUE OF ALBANY, INC. - ROCKWELL SCHOLARSHIP AWARD ($1,000.)

  • Must be a female

  • Must be a senior who will be applying for enrollment in an accredited college, university or secondary educational or vocational program

  • Must be currently involved in volunteer organizations or activities which serve the same or related focus areas as the Junior League of Albany's focus areas and able to demonstrate citizenship and initiative (their focus is women's and children's health and children's literacy)

  • Narrative description (no more than 500 words) of how receipt of the scholarship will assist you in achieving your goals

  • One letter of recommendation, must be from a volunteer organization

Deadline:  March 26, 2010

GRACE R. MCIVER EDUCATION AWARD ($300.)

  • Must be a senior planning to pursue a career in public education

  • 450-600 word, typed essay entitled: "Education - What I Can Contribute" along with the attached cover sheet

Deadline:  March 29, 2010

NEW YORK STATE SOCIETY OF PROFESSIONAL ENGINEERS ($1,000. - 3,000.)

  • Must be a senior

  • Must be intending to study engineering

Deadline:  March 29, 2010

J. RAYMOND QUINN JR. AWARD  ($1,000.)

  • Must be a senior

  • Must be planning on attending Saint Rose in the fall

  • Must have taken SAT's

  • Must be involved in extra-curricular activities

  • Need one letter of recommendation from a teacher

  • Essay required

Deadline:  March 29, 2010

ADIRONCACK MOUNTAIN CLUB SCHOLARSHIP ($500.)

  • Must be pursuing a college degree in the fields such as forestry, marine biology, chemical engineering, environmental science, etc.

  • Must submit a 1-2 page essay that contains the following information:  Name, address, phone number

  • Age

  • Parents' names

  • High school attending

  • College attending in September 2010

  • 2 or 4 year college degree

  • Future goals

Deadline:  March 29, 2010

MICHAEL L. COLLURA MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP

  • Must be a senior

  • Must have an average between 75-85

  • Activity sheet or resume

  • 2 letters of recommendation

  • 1 1/2-2 page-essay, telling the committee about yourself, your commitment to family, involvement in school and community and your future plans

Deadline:  March 31, 2010

CAPSBA STUDENT VOLUNTEER COMMUNITY SERVICE AWARD ($50.)

  • Must be a senior

  • Include activity sheet

  • (Award will be based on the merits of the student's volunteer community service contribution)

Deadline:  April 12, 2010

GARY A. JOHNSON MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP ($1,000.)

  • Must be a senior

  • Must have an average of 83 or higher

  • Must be of African descent

  • Must submit a copy of acceptance letter from an accredited tow or four-year college

  • Three letters of recommendation

  • Must submit a typed, double-spaced biographical essay, addressing the ten questions on the application as a part of your essay

Deadline:  April 12, 2010

TIMES UNION COMMUNICATION SCHOLARSHP  (1,000.)

  • Must be a senior, legally residing and/or studying in Schenectady County

  • Must intend to enroll full-time as a matriculated student in a two or four-year, degree-bearing college or university in the Fall of 2010

  • Must demonstrate an expressed interest in journalism or another communications-related field

  • Completion of several volunteer activities over the course of your high school career (a special consideration will be given to those applicants that have completed projects that focus on literacy-based initiatives with children under the age of 12)

  • Two letters of recommendation from a person such as a teacher, administrator or guidance counselor, one from the community, other than a family member or relative.  The letters should address the merits of your candidacy for this award and comment specifically on your character and abilities.  At least one must also address your community service involvement or employment experience (there is a form attached that you may give to the people from whom you request letters)

  • 500-word essay (topic on application)

Deadline:  April 12, 2010

THE TRANSTECH - SOLID SURFACE CRAFTSMAN SKILLED TRADES SCHOLARSHIP  (1,000.)

  • Must be a senior living in Schenectady County

  • Must intend on enrolling as a full-time matriculated student in a certificate or apprenticeship program, two or four-year degree bearing college or university, beginning in the Fall of 2010

  • Must demonstrate an expressed interest in a skilled trade

  • Must qualify for the free or reduced lunch program

  • Two letters of recommendation from persons within your school such as a teacher, school administrator or guidance counselor, and one individual from the community other than a family member or relative.  The letters should address the merits of your candidacy for this award and comment specifically on your character and abilities.  One letter must also address your community service involvement or employment experience

  • 250 - 500 word explanation about why you have chose to pursue a career in the skilled trades

  • Official school proof that your qualify for free or reduced lunch

Deadline:  April 12, 2010

LEONARD K. DOVIAK MEMORIAL SCHOLARHSIP 2009  ($1,000.)

  • Must be a senior residing in Schenectady County

  • Must intend to enroll full time as a matriculated student in a two or four-year, degree-bearing college or university in the Fall of 2010

  • GPA ranging between 75 - 85%

  • Two letters of recommendation; one from a teacher, a school administrator or guidance counselor, and one individual from the community other than a family member or relative.  The letters should address the merits of your candidacy for this award and comment specifically on your character and abilities.  One must address your community service involvement or employment experience (there is a form attached that you may give to the people from whom you request letters)

  • Typed essay, no longer than 2 pages (topic on application)

Deadline:  April 23, 2010

DISABLED AMERICAN VETERANS - LT. VIBERT O. FRYER CHAPTER 88 SCHOLARSHIP ($250.)

  • Must be a senior

  • Must show evidence of outstanding leadership skills, community service and patriotism

  • Will be expected to attend the Memorial Day Services which will be held at Veteran's Park (across from the county building) in Schenectady On May 31, 2010 at 10:15 a.m.

  • Include activity sheet

Deadline:  April 26, 2010

GEORGE SHEFFIELD MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP ($1,250.)

  • Must be a senior

  • Must be a child of a SCEA Local 801 member in good standing (A municipal, or board or education employee within Albany County)

  • Must have at least an 80 average

  • Must show proof of acceptance to a two or four year college, university or trade school

Deadline:  April 26, 2010

BAPTIST HEALTH SYSTEM FOUNDATION - ALFRED KAHLER SCHOLARSHIP ($2,500.)

  • Must be a senior

  • Must be planning on attending college for a health care-related human services field

  • Essay of 250 words or less

  • Need to submit activity sheet

  • Need one reference

Deadline:  June 1, 2010

JACK BAUMAN MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP ($1,000.)

  • Must be a senior

  • Must be a female

  • Must have a minimum average of 77

  • Must be planning on attending college

  • Must submit a 250 word essay on why you deserve the scholarship.  Essay must include at the top of page 1, your name, address, and phone number

  • Must submit a personal resume and a transcript

  • The essay, resume and transcript must be submitted no later than June 1, 2010 to: Eastern New York Youth Soccer Association, 53 North Park Ave., #207, Rockville Centre, New York  11570 to the Attention of the Scholarship Committee

  • Must be available for a personal interview with the committee

Deadline:  June 1, 2010

LIVIO D'ARPINO SCHOLARSHIP FUND ($2,000.)

  • Same criteria as scholarship above except open to males and female

Deadline:  June 1, 2010

PATRICIA LOUISE MASOTTO AND BRENDA DRISCOLL SCHOLARSHIP FUND ($2,000.)

  • Same criteria as scholarship above except open to males & females

THE GALLERY COLLECTION'S 3RD ANNUAL CREATE-A-BIRTHDAY-CARD SCHOLARSHIP CONTEST ($10,000)

  • Grades 9-12 may enter
