College Scholarship Opportunities
The list of scholarships below are posted in the Counseling and Career Center. All scholarships should be turned in to the student's guidance counselor, unless specified otherwise. Deadlines are highlighted at the top of each application—those are the deadlines to go by. The following scholarships are listed by deadline dates:
George Endries/Rotterdam Elks Athletic Scholarship
Deadline: March 23, 2012
Applicant must be a high school senior whose father, uncle or grandfather is or was, at the time of his death, an Elk in good standing of the Rotterdam Lodge and is a citizen of the United States.
Applicant will be judged on athletic participation, personality, leadership, perseverance, patriotism, general worthiness and financial need.
Completed Application must be returned to the Counseling and Career Center no later than March 23, 2012
PHI BETA KAPPA SCHOLARSHIP ($750)
Deadline: Feb. 27, 2012
Must be a senior
Must have a 90 percent GPA and be in the top 10 percent of their class
Completed applications will include student essay, two letters of recommendation and transcript

BLEEDING DISORDERS ASSOC. OF NORTHEASTERN NEW YORK
Deadline: March 8, 2012
Must be an individual with a congenital bleeding disorder or a member of the immediate family of a person so affected
In need of financial assistance to complete vocational or undergraduate studies at an accredited institution of higher education
JUNIOR LEAGUE OF ALBANY, INC. - ROCKWELL SCHOLARSHIP AWARD $1,000.
Deadline: Feb. 8, 2012
Must be a female
Must be a senior who will be applying for enrollment in an accredited college, university or secondary educational or vocational program
Must be currently involved in volunteer organizations or activities which serve the same or related focus areas as the Junior League of Albany's focus areas and able to demonstrate citizenship and initiative (their focus is on women's and children's health and children's literacy)
Narrative description (no more than 500 words) demonstrating your eligibility based on the criteria above. Your narrative should include a statement of how receipt of the scholarship will assist you in achieving your goals. The narrative must include a statement that acceptance of the scholarship constitutes a commitment by the applicant to continue with school and volunteer services. Also, if appropriate, please include in your narrative any information concerning economic need
One letter of recommendation, must be from a volunteer organization that you volunteer for
NED CARTER SCHOLARSHIP ($1,500. )

Must be a senior
Must be pursuing a career in a community service-related area (fire, service related major, nursing, social work, human-related services, teaching, librarian, etc.
Two teacher recommendations, one guidance counselor endorsement, one personal reference and one financial recommendation must accompany each application
A copy of parent(s) and/or guardians LAST income tax report with a copy of the W2 form must accompany this application
All applications must be typed and attached to the reference sheet
CEN MANUFACTURING SCHOLARSHIP ($1,000.)
Deadline: Mar. 22, 2012
Must be a senior
Must have been accepted at an accredited two or four-year college, university, or trade school
Must be planning on being enrolled in a major which can lead to qualifying for a position with a manufacturer
Letter of recommendation from a teacher or counselor

B. DAVIS SCHOLARSHIP ($1,000.)

Available to juniors and seniors

GARY A.JOHNSON MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP ($1,000)

The Scholarship is available to high school seniors of African ancestry who exemplify the following characteristics:
ACADEMIC ACHIEVEMENT - Maintain a cumlative grade point average (GPA) of 3.0 or greater on a scale of 4.0
LEADERSHIP - Serve in a leadership position (s) in school, religious institution, community and/or civic organizations
CHARACTER - Serve as a positive role model for their peers through attitude and conduct
COMMUNITY SERVICE - Exhibit admirable qualities of good citizenship through community and/or civic volunteerism
PERSONAL POISE - Able to articulate goals, abilities, shortcomings and rational for pursuing a particular career
THE RUTH GOLDSTEIN MEMORIAL MUSIC SCHOLARSHIP

Applicant must be a graduating senior of a Capital Region high school
Applicant must be continuing musical studies, preferably in music education or performance in the woodwind family or piano
Applicant must have demonstrated academic achievement
Applicant must demonstrate financial need

High School seniors and current undergraduates
Those who plan to enroll full time at a four-year college or university in 2012-2013
Those who plan to major in a field of study that focuses on engineering, technology, design or business, with an interest in the automotive industry.
