On this page, you will find information on the state assessment, which we will take in April.  Also on this page, you can find strategies to help you prepare for the assessment.  Just click on the link below and print.  We will be preparing for this test, formally and informally, all year long.  Students will have a test preparation workbook, which is to remain in the classroom at all times, for formal preparation.  Students will also be practicing listening, reading, and writing skills on a daily basis, informally.

Book 1- Reading Comprehension


7 Passages (Literary and Informational)39 Multiple-Choice Questions (
90 minutes)

 

Day Two: Wednesday, April 18th

Book 2-Listening/Writing


1 Listening Selection (literary), 5 Multiple-Choice Listening Questions, 3 Short-Response Listening Questions, and1 E
xtended Response Listening Question (Essay), 2 Reading Passages (literary and informational), and 13 Multiple-Choice Reading Questions.

(90 minutes)

 

Day Three: Thursday, April 19th

Book 3-Reading/Writing

 

2 Paired Passages and 1 Single Passage (literary), 4 Short-Response Questions, 1 Extended Response Question (Essay) (90 minutes)

 


Materials:
Students need to bring 2 No. 2 pencils, a highlighter, and a free reading book to his/her testing site each day.
 
Preparation:
Students cannot study for the New York State ELA Assessment. The best way to prepare for this exam is to get plenty of sleep prior to the exam, and eat a well-balanced breakfast the morning of the exam.
 
During the Exam:
TAKE YOUR TIME! Do not rush through the exam. Listen carefully to the instructions provided by the proctor in your testing location, and answer all questions to the best of your ability.
