"Passport to Your Future"
8th Grade Career Day set for March 19
After a five-year hiatus, the 8th grade career day has returned at Draper Middle School. The event, called "Passport to Your Future," will be held at Schenectady County Community College on Friday, March 19, beginning at 9 a.m.
The event will begin with an address by keynote speaker and Assistant Superintendent for Curriculum and Instruction Patrick McGrath. Students will then attend four different 30-minutes sessions with people from various careers. Students will learn what each occupation entails, how each guest speaker came to choose their profession and the kind of education/training that is necessary to obtain a job in that field.
Students will eat lunch on campus and return to Draper by 1 p.m. Students are being asked to "dress for success," as they take a glance at the professional world.
With at least 30 different careers being represented, students will be sure to hear about different careers that interest them. Back in October, all 8th graders completed interest inventories to assess their career interests. Since then, Draper guidance counselors have been working hard to find people in all of the different professions to attend the career day.
All parents are asked to complete and return a permission slip for their child to attend the event. Click here to download the form (PDF).
