Students at
Pinewood School use the computer lab in many different ways. The
following are some examples of how technology is being used here at
Pinewood.
Research-
Students have access to "kid safe search engines" that help them
gather information for reports or class projects.
Keyboarding-
This year at Pinewood students are using a new program called
Type to learn 3. This program teaches and reinforces proper typing techniques that will last a lifetime.
Word
Processing - Students use Microsoft Word to type reports,
or writing pieces they have created. Classes learn how to save
work in their teacher's folder, and how to retrieve work they have saved.
They learn how to insert clip art or images from files on the public drive. These can be used for reports and research
projects.
EdVideo- Students can watch videos on numerous subject
areas that enhance learning by giving the students a visual guide to the
topic they are studying.
PowerPoint presentations- PowerPoint allows students to do a
hypermedia presentation using technology at its best. Students can
really bring a report or research project to life with PowerPoint!!
Publisher-
Students can create many different publications within Publisher. A
few examples are cards, flyers, and banners to announce class projects or
school events. Newsletters are also a fun project we create with this
program.
Math sites-
There are numerous sites that enhance math strategies and principles.
Students can use these sites in preparation for state exams or to
reinforce skills learned in class.
Weather-The
fifth grade is using technology to track and report weather. With
the help of their teacher's, students are using a weather tracking
station located on the rooftop
of Pinewood.
Students obtain real-time weather data and learn to make weather
predictions based on current data. AWS
WeatherBug Achieve is our partner company that archives our
data.
