Banana Splits: A program for changing families

What is Banana Splits/Changing Families?

Banana Splits is a support group for students who have experienced  a family change such as:

• divorce

• separation

• death of an immediate family member

• living with grandparents, uncles, aunts

The Banana Split program is an excellent opportunity for students to share their experiences with others, explore feelings, and be supported by their peers. 

 

Discussions usually relate to feelings about the family change. Activities include but are not limited to art projects, board games, arts and crafts and other creative activities.

 

When does Banana Splits meet?

• First and Second Grade Banana Split Program will run for 4-6 weeks and will begin in October

• Kindergarten Banana Split Program will run for 4 weeks and will begin in late January

• The majority of groups will meet during lunch times-students are encouraged to bring and eat their lunch during group

• Most groups include approximately 4-6 students

 

How do I sign my child up for Banana Splits?

Students must have parent/guardian permission to participate in Banana Splits. If you wish to sign your child up for Banana Splits/Changing Families please contact me by phone 356-8416 or email at: bdinicola@mohonasen.org.
