We Are a Bucket Filling School
School Wide Program at Bradt and Pinewood
Let's be bucket filling schools!
Just start each day by saying to yourself, "I'm going to do something to fill someone's bucket today" ... And at the end of each, ask yourself, "Did I fill a bucket today?" ~Carol McCloud, Author of "Have You Filled a Bucket Today"
The Program
The program is based on the book, How Full is Your Bucket? For Kids by Tom Rath and Mary Reckmeyer as well as Have you filled a Bucket Today?” by Carol McCloud. The book presents a simple message with a BIG meaning. Everyone has an invisible bucket that you can either fill or dip into. When you are a “bucket filler” you spread good, caring feelings to others, which makes everyone feel good! When you are a “bucket dipper” you take good feelings away from someone and you empty their bucket and your own bucket, too.
Here's how it works:
o Every classroom has a bucket, a pouch of pom poms, and Bucket Star Coupons (extra copies of the book are available in the Book Nook.) Every special area teacher has a pom pom pouch as well as Bucket Star Coupons.
o The pom poms are a symbol for students to give to other students or teachers to give to students when their bucket has been filled.
The Bucket Star coupons are for teacher to recognize students who constantly go above and beyond a bucket filler. Bucket Star coupons are announced to the school and students pictures and coupon will be displayed on the Bucket Board for everyone's viewing. Bucket Star students will also receive a Bucket Filling Tattoo as a token for all their hard work keeping Bradt School "A Bucket Filling School."
How do you fill a bucket?
o Showing respect by always treating others the way that you would want to be treated
o Helping others when they are sad, hurt, or need assistance
o Including each other
o If someone is lonely ask them to play
o Saying hello
o Introducing yourself
o Show appreciation
o Sticking up for each other
o Be kind and caring
o Smile
o Say hello
o Ask someone: how are you doing? or how is your day going?
o And so many more...
What is dipping?
This is what you don't want to do because when you dip into a bucket you take out good feeling and thoughts, which empties others buckets and it empties your own. It makes your and others feel bad.
o Calling people names
o Making fun of someone
o leaving someone out
o teasing
o bullying
o hurting someone's feelings
o hitting, punching, kicking, pushing, or pinching
o Not showing respect for others and things around you
HAPPY BUCKET FILLING!!!
