Mohonasen's CEIP program
gives juniors and seniors the chance to explore career interests by interning
with local businesses and organizations. Along the way, interns gain valuable
workplace experience and a clearer understanding of the importance of a good
education in today's high- tech/high-skills economy.
Internships offer a number
of clear benefits:
- Students are mentored
by experts in the field who give them practical advice on how to "get
their foot in the door". In fact, several mentors have hired interns to
work part- time after they've completed their internship requirements.
- Students see the
connection between school and work, learning firsthand what kinds of
knowledge, skills, and education are required to succeed in a chosen field.
- Students establish
positive contacts with the local business community.
- The program helps
develop a good work ethic. Many students say their internship helped improve
their planning and organizational skills and made them more motivated to
succeed in school.
Students can participate
in the CEIP program in their junior or senior year. They can earn either one or
one- half toward graduation:
One Credit = 108
hours of on-site internship with 54 hours of in-school instruction and a
rotation through at least four aspects of a career area; or
One- Half Credit =
54 hours of on-site internship with 27 hours of in-school instruction and a
rotation through at least three aspects of a career area.
Students have to apply for
acceptance into the CEIP program and show a strong commitment to fulfilling
their internship responsibly. All interns participate in a weekly class at
Mohonasen to explore career development issues. Students also met individually
with Mohonasen's CEIP coordinator to discuss their unique internship
experiences.
All internships are non-paid. Working papers are required of interns age 17 and younger. Interns are
covered under Mohonasen's insurance policy.
